ABOUT THE BAND

The SHEDHAWKS band

The Shedhawks formed in 2021 in Orangeville, Ontario. The band consist of Jake Thompson (lead vocals, guitar), Jesse Watts (bass, guitar), Zack Thompson (guitar, vocals), Riley Thompson (piano, synth) and Kevin Hinksman (drums, percussion).

The shedhawks with Paul Langois

Hanging out in a shed, drinking beer and making music. That's how it started. Along the way, a stroke of luck and generosity brought us to Kingston to record with Paul Langlois of the Tragically Hip. We released an album. We’ve played concerts to hundreds of friends and family. It’s been a hell of a ride. But most of the time, you’ll still find us in the shed.

LYRICS

FADING AWAY

Fading away, in the back of a black Pontiac We’re out on the town, we were drinking thinking we were the shit Looking beyond, the fact we’re small fish, in a small pond Making amends, cause in the end these friends are here for the haul Stumbling home, from the hanger trying to keep my head Like it or not, we’d wind up doing something stupid instead Looking for love, under the arches haven’t found it yet By the end of the night, a greasy burgers all that’s sharing my bed. Looking back, its fading away, fading away But I’m moving on, into the fray But those times we remember set us on our way Don’t know we’re going, because I haven’t got there yet I haven’t got there yet Saturday night, and there’s a rumble down at Tony Rose We’ll be sweating it out, so grab your cooler and a cold one to go Moving round, and round, and round, and round Every place you go it feels like home But pound for pound, this little town is in league of it’s own I’m looking back, its fading away, fading away I’m moving on, into the fray But those times we remember set us on our way Hey, hey, fading away We were young drunk and dumb, we had nothing to hide Fading away We lived in the moment, we we’re doing it right Fading away Ya never find the grass greener on the other side Fading away, Hey Don’t know where I’m going, because I haven’t got there yet

REMINISCE

Stories told about the wild things that ya did I can see it in my head, feels like you’re right here We sit around, we pour a drink out on the ground If you knew that we were down, you’d be pretty pissed You were fearless, no you never would back down But there’s one thing in this life that you just can’t miss We’ll keep you in our pocket, beside our handkerchief Won’t be crippled by the sadness, or strangled by the grief Walking through the mountains, I’m walking through the mist Gonna have a couple beers, tonight I’m getting pissed Searching for an answer, that’s lost in the abyss Fighting back the tears, tonight we reminisce We were close, even when we’re far apart Now you’re always in my heart, helping keep the beat You were the light that kept the room from getting dark There’s no fire without your spark, we really miss the heat When people die we tend to sugarcoat their life But we don’t want hide a single side of you We’ll keep you in our pocket, beside our handkerchief Won’t be crippled by the sadness, or strangled by the grief Walking through the mountains, I’m walking through the mist Gonna have a couple beers, tonight I’m getting pissed Searching for an answer, that’s lost in the abyss Fighting back the tears, tonight we reminisce I know I should carry on, don’t wanna carry on without you I know I should carry on, don’t wanna carry on without you I know I should carry on, don’t wanna carry on without you I know I should carry on, don’t wanna carry on without you I know I should carry on, don’t wanna carry on without you

ALL HANDS ON DECK

We spend our life in a hole, always searching for more Not trying to get rich, just trying not to be poor We live like rats in an endless maze Can’t see the sky through the hopeless haze I hope that we can change, I hope it’s not too late, Can’t stitch it up, we gotta amputate Hear the call of the wild, not the glitter of gold All hands on deck, cause she’s about to blow We keep building up on shaky ground Just trying to get rich, while it all falls down You can’t take it with you when you go, Our kids will reap what we will sow I hope that we can change, I hope it’s not too late, Can’t stitch it up, we gotta amputate Till the tap runs dry, we keep drilling for more, It’s the well that provides, but it’ll steal your soul Hear the call of the wild, not the glitter of gold All hands on deck, cause she’s about to blow Till the tap runs dry, we keep drilling for more, It’s the well that provides, but it’ll steal your soul Hear the call of the wild, not the glitter of gold All hands on deck, cause she’s about to blow All hands on deck - cause she’s about to blow All hands on deck - cause she’s about to blow All hands on deck - cause she’s about to blow All hands on deck - cause she’s about to blow She’s about to blow She’s about to blow She’s about to blow She’s about to blow

(WAITIN') ON A SUNNY DAY

It’s Thursday night packing up the van Heading north gonna find ourselves some sand Been working like a dog, spending all my time Looking forward to the weekend time is finally mine Don’t care what the weatherman has to say Gonna get my ass on highway 10 either way I need to get away Could throw a ball on the beach, or take the boat for a ride Or Wheat Kings on the deck, while we’re watching the tide Sunk back in my Muskoka, watch the sun expire If I get too tipsy keep me out of the fire Parties growing last count there was 25 heads There’s 2 tents, 3 couches, and one double bed, The rest can sleep in the shed Down by the dock on Georgian Bay - Waiting on a sunny day Almost the 24th of May - Waiting on a sunny day I hope this rain fucks off today - Waiting on a sunny day And I know it might not be today But I’m still waiting, I’m still waiting, I’m still waiting Waiting on a sunny day Grab a cooler so we’re not lugging beers back and forth I see you drinking my molsons, I know you brought coors, Life’s simple while you’re floating down the nottawasaga Kick back in your raft and let the river decide I’m waiting, I’m waiting, I’m waiting, I’m waiting I’m waiting, I’m waiting, I’m waiting, I’m waiting I’m waiting, I’m waiting, I’m waiting, I’m waiting I’m waiting, I’m waiting, I’m waiting, I’m waiting Down by the dock on Georgian Bay (that’s my favourite bay) Almost the 24th of May (that’s my favourite holiday) I hope this rain fucks off today (that’s my favourite bad word to say) And I know it might not be today (but tomorrow’s so far away) Sawing logs in the hammock as the day goes by I’ll catch my second wind by the fire light I’m staying up one more night Down by the dock on Georgian Bay - Waiting on a sunny day Almost the 24th of May - Waiting on a sunny day I hope this rain fucks off today - Waiting on a sunny day And I know it might not be today But I’m still waiting, I’m still waiting, I’m still waiting Waiting on a sunny day Salt the rim of your caesar, and add in some franks Put down your phone or else it goes in the lake Cooking up some pemeal, maybe some steaks How long do these potatoes take to bake When ya step in the cottage, ya wipe off your feet Playing cards with Grandma, she likes to cheat Diggin holes in the sand, play charades by the fire Have a good night all, the party pooper is tired

SEPTIC BLUES

Well it was late one night, we were feeling alright, felt like writing a tune It was laid out before us, just needed a chorus, to make it ring true I know you’ve heard it all before, it’s hard to find something new When it’s a sunny day, and your sorrow’s at bay, it’s hard to sing the blues The twinkle in your eye, while we compiled, that silly song Hearing your laughter, it’s all we were after, how could we go wrong, And I know, it’s not a pretty poem, but that didn’t matter to you, No you dug right in, you even started to sing, the septic blues I’m just looking for a little light, in the dark of night Just looking for a sign that life, is worth the fight And all I want, and all I need, just a hug in a memory I’m just looking for a little light, and this feels right… its the septic blues Every bumpy mile, you couldn’t help but smile, even when you knew When you had a hard time, finding your rhyme, you’d go a do do do, do do do do do And I know, not everything’s a joke, just doing what you taught us to And I know, your spirit carries on, in the music we make for you I’m just looking for a little light, in the dark of night Just looking for a sign that life, is worth the fight And all I want, and all I need, just a hug in a memory I’m just looking for a little light, and this feels right - and this feels right I’m just looking for a little light, in the dark of night - in the dark of night Just looking for a sign that life, is worth the fight - worth the fight And all I want, and all I need, just a hug in a memory I’m just looking for a little light, and this feels right, it’s the septic blues

THE WAY

I’m heading out for a hike today Gonna climb a mountain, gonna get away Those white blazes calling my name And God I hope, I can take the pain Slow it down when life moves fast, That fleeting glance, that blade of grass The air is sweet this far from the city Away from the noise, away from pity Thoughts running through your head Don’t leave a thing unsaid No you’re not better off dead Get on your way Well a girl named Jackie and a dog named Lou They keep moving, I follow suite The wind is howling, but I’m not moved Cause my family tree, has got deep roots When your life plays out in just one act No time to think, only to react Looking back on the lives we lead Things we’ll never admit to, but we’ll never forget Thoughts running through your head Don’t leave a thing unsaid No you’re not better off dead So get on your way Well, I’m lost and I am found along the way Ya, don’t know where I’m going to today Ya, all I know is I can’t stay Ya, if I get lost, show me the way Well, I’m lost and I am found along the way Ya, don’t know where I’m going to today Ya, all I know is I can’t stay Ya, if I get lost, show me the way

THE GAME

The game is on we play for keeps Don’t need to win, but we cannot accept defeat Empty tank, time’s ticking down We get momentum from the crowd When the jerseys on, it’s a slicker for the pain Win lose or draw, it’s how you play the game. Win or lose, it’s how you play the game Win or lose, it’s how you play the game We’re kicking around outside the rink, Just thinking about the next place we, can get, a drink We left it all, out on floor Man my arms are fuckin sore When the jerseys on, it’s a slicker for the pain Win lose or draw, it’s how you play the game. Soaked to the bone, red in the face, Blood sweat and tears, it all goes down the drain Win or lose, it’s how you play the game Win or lose, it’s how you play the game Win or lose, it’s how you play the game Win or lose, it’s how you play the game When you dig a little deeper It tastes a little sweeter You’re gonna take a beatin But damn it’s fun to win and Your bleeding for the sweater, You overcome together, It won’t get any better than this It’s how you play the game Win or lose, oh I know, its all the same, it’s how you play the game Win or lose, it’s how you play the game Win or lose, it’s how you play the game Win or lose, it’s how you play the game

FEED MY SOUL

Pick me up off the ground You put your heart on a plate and it’ll feed my soul I don’t deserve what I’ve found All the fish in the sea I only need to find one Feel it while we sit by the fire The light dancing off your eyes So happy in the peace and quiet Lou is begging us to go outside I'm waiting just to see you smile (just to see you smile) I don’t care if it takes all night, (I can wait all night) You don’t have to say a word Just put your heart on a plate And it’ll feed my soul It’ll feed my soul It’ll feed my soul It’ll feed my soul Just put your heart on a plate And it’ll feed my soul It’ll feed my soul It’ll feed my soul It’ll feed my soul It’ll feed my soul

SUNSET

I break my back to steer my ship But I ride, up and down with the tide The raging storm has dropped me here Now I see, this view don’t come for free The sun is falling from the sky Time to find A bit of calm for my mind In the final gasp of light A little hope will light the way, like a fire on a cold dark night If I’m heading for the sunset, I’m glad I’m at the wheel I find myself with one more drink Replay my day, reflected out on the lake The amber sky shouts quietly, All I hear, is a moment without fear I feel my fate come blowing in It sticks to the evening air It sticks to me I don’t care When the winds too hard to bear A little hope will light the way, like a fire on a cold dark night If I’m heading for the sunset, I’m glad I’m at the wheel I’m glad I’m at the wheel I’m glad I’m at the wheel If I’m heading for the sunset, I’m glad I’m at the wheel If I’m heading for the sunset, I’m glad I’m at the wheel If I’m heading for the sunset, I’m glad I’m at the wheel If I’m heading for the sunset, I’m glad I’m at the wheel A little hope will light the way, like a fire on a cold dark night If I’m heading for the sunset, I’m glad I’m at the wheel I’m glad I’m at the wheel I’m glad I’m at the wheel
